- Designed by Apple to complement your iPhone, the form of the silicone case fits snugly over the volume buttons, side button, and curves of your device without adding bulk. A soft microfiber lining on the inside helps protect your iPhone. On the outside, the silky, soft-touch finish of the silicone exterior feels great in your hand. And you can keep it on all the time, even when you’re charging iPhone 8 wirelessly.

I had a $5 case on my iPhone 6 which had many drops and falls. That $5 case did well, for a cheap price. I decided to upgrade to an Apple case for my 7. In the first month, thin cracks started forming along the edges. When trying to take it off the phone it will tear easily if you are not careful. It survived a couple of falls and did well. Unfortunately I dropped my phone a few weeks ago. On the corner where the impact happened which cracked my screen, the case had broken off. I am disappointed in Apple's case. It costs 7x as much as the cheap case I used for almost two years. In just 6 months the Apple case failed me. I do not recommend. Not just because it didn't save my phone from cracking, which is ultimately my fault, but the overall poor quality.169 of 190 people found this useful- 1.0 out of 5 stars
Wears terribly, can be 'chipped', mushy buttons, but fits snug.

The newly exposed areas The fit and initial finish of this case is good. The regular wear and tear of daily life first starts to wear off the nice outer layer. The newly exposed areas become shiny and feel slimy. It just gets worse and worse over time. Some sharp edges, such as keys, can chip or nick the silicone. I'll definitely forego the silicone case in the future. I've replaced it with the leather version, but as each one is unique, pick one out at the store so you'll know if you like the finish and grain of the leather. It's much more durable, against regular wear and tear, as well as the solid feel of the metal buttons. (The silicone case doesn't really have bumps as much as it has bumps.)82 of 93 people found this useful - 1.0 out of 5 stars
I've Gone Through Two of These Cases in Three Months
I purchased this case when I purchased my new iPhone and needed to replace it within a month due to it breaking apart along the edges near the screen. The new o I purchased this case when I purchased my new iPhone and needed to replace it within a month due to it breaking apart along the edges near the screen. The new one I replaced it with hasn't even been dropped on the floor but again the material is crumbling and breaking off. In addition, the coating on the back is rubbing off from sliding it in and out of my pocket with use. I expect this after a year of wear/use but to have a case literally falling apart after a month and down $45+ dollars is unacceptable. Do not invest your money in this case, it's a waste.66 of 74 people found this useful
Matte finish wearing off

It is 8 months now and the case does not look anything like original Apple product. Save money. Do not buy the black one. I have an 8 plus and it has the midnight blue case and that one has had no problems.1 of 1 people found this useful- 2.0 out of 5 stars

A case should really last longer than that. Service at store was terrible, apparently some cracking or some peeling is covered, and some isn’t. Could be manufacture defect might be not. Arbitrary. Useless and terrible quality. Pretty disappointed with supposed Apple quality.3 of 3 people found this useful

Apple's designers surely didn't mean for the iPhone’s sleek design to be covered up, but failing to give it a protective case leaves the device vulnerable to smudges and scratches–or, worse, shattered glass and bent metal. To minimize the risk of serious damage, consider using a protective case. Here's a quick guide to shopping for iPhone protection, along with a rundown of the most common types of cases and some examples of each type.
Shopping tips
Whichever type of case you choose, make sure it doesn’t block the iPhone 5’s bottom-mounted speaker, headphone jack, microphone, and dock-connector port; top-mounted microphone; the camera lens and flash on the back; and the camera lens, light sensor, and proximity sensor on the front—unless, of course, the case is designed so that you remove your iPhone to use it. Similarly, if you like to use dock-cradle accessories, make sure the case is easily removable, as many of docking accessories, such as speaker systems, are not compatible with cases. Case types and recommendations
Pouches and Sleeves: Pouches and sleeves completely encase your iPhone to protect it from scratches. Some even provide extra padding to help guard against bumps, drops, and shocks. These cases tend to be relatively inexpensive, though many also limit access to the device’s touchscreen—you have to pull out your device to access features.
Recommendations:
- WaterField Designs Suede Jacket ($10-$16)
- Dodocase Durables Wallet ($50)
- Belkin Pocket Case ($22)
Holsters: Holsters let you store your iPhone on your belt or bag strap for easy access, but you need to take the device out of the case to use it.
Recommendations:
- Marware CEO Prestige Plus ($40)
- PureGear Kickstand Case & Holster ($30)
- Seidio Convert ($50)
Shells: If you don’t need a lot of protection—for example, if you keep your iPhone in your pocket, a purse, or a laptop bag—a shell-style case is right up your alley. These rigid cases enclose most of your device in a thin layer of rigid plastic or metal, offering protection against minor bumps and scratches, but not hard drops. The cases also leave your device’s entire screen and all controls fully accessible, and tend to have a slim profile that doesn’t add bulk to the phone. If you don’t want to hide your iPhone’s shiny surface, consider a shell made of hard, transparent plastic. Some shells also include belt clips, though clips that can be removed without leaving a nub sticking out on the back are generally preferable. A tip: We prefer shells with sides that protrude ever-so-slightly past the iPhone's screen, so that if you set the phone down screen down, the phone rests on the case sides, rather than on the screen.
Recommendations:
- Hex Core Case ($35)
- Speck CandyShell ($35)
- Twig Case ($49-$69)
- Casemate Barely There ($30)
Skins: One of the most popular types of cases, skins enclose your iPhone in a layer of silicone rubber or a similar flexible material. Thinner skins prevent scratches without adding much bulk, whereas thicker skins provide extra shock protection. Both give your device some grip; the downside of a skin, however, is that because of that grip, getting your device out of your pocket can be a minor hassle. Many skin cases are easy to remove, which is convenient if you want to use your iPhone with accessories that work only on a naked iPhone.

- SwitchEasy Tones ($25)
- ZooGue Social Pro ($15)

Bumpers: A bumper case is basically a protective band that wraps around the edge of the iPhone. Although a bumper-style case doesn’t offer the same protection as a standard case—especially for the iPhone 5’s glass and aluminum back—it does protect against many drops while leaving your iPhone’s beauty undisguised.

Flip cases and wallets: Flip cases offer complete protection, thanks to a screen cover that flips open for access. Although these cases tend to be a bit bulkier than most, they offer a good compromise between protection and convenience. Some also include a pocket for cash, credit cards, or an ID, and a few even convert into a stand for watching videos or photo slideshows.
Recommendations:
- Cygnett Flip Wallet ($40)
- Pad & Quill Little Pocket Book ($60)
- Sena Hampton Flip ($60)
Armbands: If you listen to music on your iPhone while working out, you'll want a case that offers shock resistance, some amount of moisture protection, and convenient carrying options. You’ll find such cases in the other categories here, but many people prefer exercise armbands, which strap onto your upper arm to keep your iPhone safe but accessible. Recommendations:
- Scosche SoundKase ($30)
- XtremeMac Sportwrap LED ($80)
- Incase Sports Armband ($40)
Screen protection and body films: Many iPhone cases include a clear, flexible, adhesive film that protects the phone’s glass screen from scratches, but if you prefer to carry your iPhone au naturel—or if you want a higher-quality film—you can purchase a screen protector separately. The best are basically invisible and don’t affect the iPhone’s touch-screen sensitivity; some offer an anti-glare finish, and some are also available in full-body versions that protect the entire iPhone from scratches without adding bulk or obscuring its stylish appearance. Recommendations:
- Moshi iVisor AG (screen only, $25)
- Wrapsol Ultra screen (screen and back protectors, $30)
- X-Doria Defense Pro (screen only, $20)
Ultimate protection: People who treat their devices roughly or venture into harsh environments will want a case that offers complete protection against shocks and the elements. These cases can add significant bulk, and may make your device's buttons and ports difficult to access, but you won’t have to worry about damaging your phone if you drop it. Some even keep out sand and water. Recommendations:
- OtterBox iPhone Defender Case ($50)
- Incase SYSTM Vise ($50)
- Gumdrop Drop Tech Series ($45)
